Dealing with the Diagnosis

Being diagnosed with diabetes is a beginning. It’s a beginning of a life that includes glucose monitoring, health management and education. At The Medicine Shoppe® pharmacy, we’re here to help you get the tools and information you need so you can confidently get back to living your life freely.

Being told you have a condition like diabetes can cause some people to go through a grieving process. This includes feelings of denial, anger, depression, and finally, adaptation. It is common to be worried about long-term effects of diabetes. Control this worry by controlling your blood glucose. Consult resources such as your health care team and Medicine Shoppe pharmacist for information on how to best start this process.

It is also important to acknowledge your feelings and the reasons for them. You did not choose to have diabetes, but you can choose how to respond and how to take care of your diabetes. As with most of life’s hurdles, it’s helpful to have support. Generally, family and friends want to be supportive but may not know how.

If you or your family needs additional information or help, contact your local diabetes specialist for assistance. Ask us. We’re here to help.
